If our climate control system is working properly, we never give it a second thought. For some, it’s just “set and forget”. For others, if the air blowing from the vents is the right temperature, it’s all good!
But keeping the cabin at the desired temperature requires a complex system of electronic, mechanical, and gaseous systems working at peak efficiency to keep us comfortable, and each system has specific maintenance needs for proper operation.
Inside Air Temperature
Electronically, your system may use a variety of sensors and switches to keep the inside air at a specific temperature. Your interface with this system is actually a small computer, with computer components and connections. These units typically must be checked first, as they control the other systems required to cool or heat the inside air.
Your engine turns a compressor, which moves refrigerant through a dryer and condenser to create cold air. This refrigerant also a small amount of lubricating oil in it to lubricate the moving parts within the compressor. If some of it leaks out, or if it loses its “charge”, the compressor could fail. If the system has a leak, water will enter the system and become corrosive to all of the system components. Mechanically, the system uses a clutch to cycle the compressor for economical operation; sometimes it will cycle hundreds of times per hour. With this much use, maintenance and service becomes more important.
Get your system inspected annually
That’s why it’s important to have your system inspected annually for leaks and efficient operation. And if you suspect a problem, or if the air just isn’t as cold as it used to be, come in and let us take a look. We’ll test your system for proper operation, and if it isn’t working as it should, we’ll be able to diagnose the problem quickly and give you an estimate of repair. We’ll have you comfortably back on the road in no time! Now how cool is that?
